I LOVE using homespun to crochet items, especially baby things, it is so soft to put on baby and to work with. If you try to use it with a too small hook, it becomes too hard, or if you pull your stitches too tight. I LOVE this little poncho, I have made others, but this one by far is the cutest!

I agree--Homespun is definitely too difficult to work with. Initially, I started the poncho with a sport-weight but the yarn was a little too rough for a baby. I got a feel, though, for how easy it was to work with a strongly twisted yarn. Homespun has too many loose loops that catch and you can't tell where the stitches are---but it is soft!

When I looked at the pattern, I was baffled how something so simple would be labeled "experienced"

I found out it's because of the stitches used while using the Homespun yarn! While the pattern is simple and easy to follow, trying to do a bphdc with Homespun is near impossible.

I don't think I've sworn more in any other crochet project I've done.

So, the pattern is great, but I will never ever make it with the recommended yarn again. Next time I'll pick a different yarn!
