When I made the hat I slip stitched into the chain to make a circle. This eliminated the sewing of the side seams. Working with this yarn I chained 2 at the turn instead of 3. Then all you have to do is close the top using the extra long tail I left at the beginning chain (fewer loose ends to deal with).

I made an altered version of this set for my mom, and she loves it; she loves the feel of Homespun.
Note: I completed the scarf lentghwise instead of as the pattern read, because I wanted less row repeats. It came out nicely, although following the pattern would have allowed more noticeable color variation (I think).

I messed up the hat the first time and then tried it a second time I succeeded with the hat and scarf. This was so easy to do would make again.

This was my very first project! I used a 13 needle so the stitch is big and my ears get cold, so I'm going to add a liner. I'm still working on the scarf; made a it a little wider, and due to using the bigger needle, I had to add another skein. My friend that showed me how to knit is impressed that my first thing was a hat. This is really easy!

Hat was nicely shaped, but came out huge for me even after double checking gauge. I would recommend using a shorter starting chain if you have short hair.

I have made a number of hats using this pattern, and it is my regular stand-by pattern when I need to make a hat.
This is an excellent pattern for beginners as well as the more experienced crocheter.
I highly recommend this pattern to anyone that likes to crochet as you will not be disappointed with the results.
This is a very nice pattern.

I made the hat for myself last winter as an extremely novice crocheter. I'm making the scarves as gifts this holiday season.

I made the scarf, still working on the hat... The scarf was extremely easy to make. It took a few hours. I will be making them for several friends for the holidays!
