'Famous Designer' Hat Reviewed by Lynne Budnick on 2012-03-30 ****
I made this hat in one color of Lion Suede-canyon for a chemo caps project. I found the directions confusing, but I was able to crochet the hat correctly with a few redo's. What is up with the finishing details? I ommitted, due to fact that the first part of the directions made no sense at all!. Hat looks fine without the finishing. Also,I have a stash of suede, love this yarn, but you might suggest an alternate yarn because the yarn is discontinued.

I admit I was new to crotcheting when I tried this pattern. However, I tried multiple times to follow the pattern as directed and failed to mimic the picture. The suede yarn was difficult to work with and the hat turned out way too loose to be practical. The hats ended up getting tossed because they held up poorly with limited use.

i really enjoyed making this was super fast and an easy pattern. i used lionbrand wool-ease chunky instead of the suede yarn (since ive found its now discontinued)and it worked well. hat is a little shorter than some would like but not much (it covers most of my ears) and it would be very simple to add a few more rows if desired. very cute!!

I made this as a Chemo Cap for a co-worker of mine. I made it mostly navy blue with one off-white shell round where you first change colors. Now, I had been asked to make another one in yellow and white for a co-worker's mother. I just used worsted weight yarn. It worked out great! It does seems strange the way the shells are increased, but it works out in the end! It works up fast! I did add about two more rows as I thought it was too short. It makes a nice scalloped edge around the bottom.

I used Lion Suede Fuchsia and Waterlilies, which are a happy combination. The suede yarn itself was kind of a pain to work with because it grabs itself, and it leaves a residue on the hands. I ended up adding a couple more rounds to get the size that seemed right. My tension may have been too tight in the beginning. I probably won't make another of these hats, but the end result looks good and should make a nice gift.
