Aran Cardigan Sweater Reviewed by Lea Mollman on 2008-05-19 ****
When it came time to assemble this, I had a bit of difficulty fitting the sleeve caps into the armholes. I recommend using the sleeve top decreases for the front and back at the armholes, and leaving off the sleeve cap section entirely. I had to sew and re-sew--4 times altogether!--and CUT OFF several inches, before the shoulder fit well. Also, I added round elastic to the inside of the cuffs and hem to snug them up. This was my first cable project, and once I had the pattern established, it knit up beautifully, and I will wear it for years.

I'm disappointed with this. The model shows the cardigan to be reasonably 'figure hugging' but the reality is in Lea's pictures. It just looks too big. (Was there a huge bulldog clip holding it in at the back?)
And either it's me or there's definitely something wrong with the sleeve instructions. I too had several attempts to get them into the armholes and even after a re-knit, there's just too much around the shoulders.
(Even in the model picture you can see 'a lot of sleeve' around the upper arm.)
In my disgust I startd to unpick it and look for a new pattern, but I might try Lea's shoulder suggestion first.
On a positive -- I love the pattern/cabelling design!

After knitting this sweater I find that I wear it so much that I haven't even gotten the buttons sewn on yet.

I'm done with the back. Now I'm working the right and left sides at the same time. So far, so good. It's just beautiful.

The instructions were very easy to follow.

I am 2/3 finished with this, started both sleeves on one circular needle to make it easier to keep the increases and shaping identical. the pattern is easy to follow, but it could use more details, as in 'it's best to bind off the shoulders two or three rows after a cable shift' or 'a 3-needle bind off works well at the shoulder seam.'
I changed it to a round neck line, will send photo when finished.
