Pleased with this vest overall.... however, I did "Tweak" the pattern to suit my personal taste ..... I omitted the "Side splits" & knitted the garment 17" long before armhole cast off. I also found the shoulders too narrow for my taste, instead of ending with 11 sts I worked less decreases on armhole edging, leaving 18 sts. thus giving me "wider" shoulders which suited me better.. I will knit it again, maybe leaving in the "side splits" next time!

I was looking to do some "stash busting" when I came across this pattern. I didn't have any chunky yarn so I used some Vanna's Choice I had on hand and made it using the biggest size instructions.

It turned out very well. Next time I would add a few more rows of garter stitch at the bottom edge to reduce the curling that happened.

Moms with tween/teen girls beware. This vest ended up becoming a staple in my daughter's wardrobe because she thought it looked more like a 'boyfriend' vest. ("Which are very popular now and everyone is wearing them.")
She asked me to omit the button and button hole as she wears it with a belt or just loose.

She has asked me to make her another one in a different color and to crochet it this time. I am also getting 'hints'
from some of her friends to make vests for them as well.

I don't think the photo gives a good impression of the finished product. I thought I'd end up with something longer. Instead where the garter and stocking stitch meet makes for an awkward line across my chest, making it look larger (I need no help in that department) and the vest ends rather high.

I think maybe translating these patterns into the bigger sizes is where the problem lies. There's enough room given for a bigger chest for instance but little thought of how the proportion needs to change when body shape does.

I'd reccomend that anyone knitting this in a larger size add a couple o inches of garter before starting the armholes an maybe even a few more inches of stocking on the bottom section.

Anyhow, decent, quick pattern that needs a little tweaking for the chubbier people out there.

This pattern is very confusing and is not appropriate for a beginner.

I made this for my mother and it came out very nicely. She wears it quite a bit. I had gotten some of the Chunky USA yarn when they discontinued it and liked it very much. I think the Wool Ease Chunky would work well in this pattern.

The only change I would make is that I would add a few more garter ridges to the bottom as it curls in the back.

But don't forget - if you add rows in the back - add them to the front as well!
