For the person having difficulty with this pattern, my advice is on the first row complete the last 3 single crochets on the 1st row to end the row. You'll still have 2 chains left, but get rid of those. The other suggestion is to be sure you are ending with a color and cutting yarn, not joining yarn UNLESS pattern specifically says to JOIN yarn with the next color. Also be sure when the pattern says (counts as first dc, you are crocheting in the top of that chain 2 when you are ending a row).
I really hope this helps!

I have tried this pattern 4 times and can't seem to get past the 4th row and have it come out correctly, wish I knew what I was doing wrong!! I do the first 3 rows and when I do the fourth, at the end, it doesn't match what the instructions tell me to do. Frustrating. I am going to try again, though. I really like the way this pattern looks!!

I wanted to make some toddler blankets. Wanted to make a farm and a sea . this was perfect for both. For the sea, made in blues. then added flat crocheted shapes of various sizes for fish, sea creatures, boats, etc. made some free-form seaweed in greens. made first few rows in sand colors for the ocean floor so could add a sunken treasure. Top stitched shapes down with a plastic yarn needle.

for the farm, used original colors shown in project photo, but added some rows of greens so would look like plants growing. then stitched on some flat crochet animal shapes, a barn, a farm house, trees, etc. and top stitched some fences. both turned out a bit on the thick side where the shapes were layered on and you have to be careful to keep the blanket flat when stitching down the shapes so it does't streach. i didn't block the project because i wanted the yarn to retain it's loft. but turned out okay as gifts. just best to put in dryer till dampness is mostly out, then finish line drying because is so thick when done. but is also good and warm when all is done and great for baby to play with. i sopose i could have used felt instead for the all the shapes, but i just didn't think of it at the time.
