I have made three of these. They are easy and fun. I don't use the fringe.

Eash one is a little different. I have never used the wide white band.

I am getting ready to start #4.

Oh how pretty - the colors just seem to blend together like a rainbow. Can't wait to give it to my granddaughter. Everyone I show this to loves it. Easy too!!!

I have made 2 of these and am starting number 3.

I think this is just perfect if you don't know the sex of the baby or you don't know the colors the parents to be are using.

I am a novice at crocheting and made this afghan for my granddaughter, it turned out beautiful and was easy to do.

This pattern is simple but the frequent color changes keep it interesting. My guess is that it's rated intermediate only due to using 2 strands of yarn. (Note that in order to use 2 strands from the same skein of yarn, you have to unwind part of the skein and wind it into a loose ball.) I would suggest choosing a hook size that feels comfortable (I used J) and adjusting the number of starting chains as needed - just add/subtract a multiple of 2 chains for each V-stitch. Last but not least, Row 1 doesn't tell you "skip 1 ch" before doing a dc in the final chain - it's implied, but you might think you have an extra chain when you actually don't.

I've made this twice--once with the colors indicated, for a girl, and once by substituting the white with an off-white, and taking out the pink, for someone who wasn't sure if she was having a boy or a girl ahead of time. The blanket works up quickly, although it does get to the point where it is difficult to take anywhere. Wrap this up with a few baby books, and you've got the instant "mommy/baby reading time" gift!
