Lion Brand Yarn Studio Unveils 'Yarn is Art' Window Display in NYC

YouTube Video Showcases Creative Talents of Local Artist Who Created the Art Pieces All with Yarn.

New York- April 5, 2012- Lion Brand Yarn Studio, the retail store of Lion Brand Yarn Company, recently unveiled its new entirely yarn-crafted window display entitled "Yarn is Art". The display features recreations of three famous paintings with yarn as opposed to paint: Le Reve by Picasso, Sunflowers by Van Gogh, and LOVE by Robert Indiana, which now reads, YARN. The yarn art pieces were designed by Juliet Hone, a local artist who has knit pieces for the Lion Brand Yarn Studio's window display in the past as well.

The three framed fine art replicas are displayed in the window similar to an art gallery set up. The Lion Brand Yarn Studio changes its window displays every three months, focusing on inspiration rather than merchandise. Every window installation has a theme, which in the past has included a yarn-crafted recreation of Coney Island, the iconic "Greetings from New York City" postcard, and more. The window display has become a part of Union Square community; both locals and tourists shoot hundreds of photos of it every month.

Since the Lion Brand Yarn Studio has fans nationwide and overseas, the company has uploaded a video on YouTube that shows the transformation from concept to completed art. "Over the years there have been so many questions about the creative process of the window. People find it hard to believe that it is all made by hand, so we thought we’d give our loyal fans a sneak peek at the behind the scenes creative process,” said Patty Lyons, Director of the Lion Brand Yarn Studio. The video can be viewed here:
