Lion Brand Yarn Studio is Collecting Knit and Crochet Blocks for Warm Up America
Lion Brand Yarn Studio is collecting blocks for afghans for Warm Up America, a national non-profit that donates afghans, caps, and other knit and crochet items to those in need.
Manhattan, NY –October 4, 2010 –Lion Brand Yarn Studio, the retail store of Lion Brand Yarn Company, is collecting afghan blocks for charity. Each year the Studio dedicates its fall window display to a charity, and this year it is dedicated to Warm Up America, a charity that collects afghans, caps, and other knit and crochet items to donate to those in need.
The afghan blocks collected will be on display in the Studio window, along with a sign counting the number of blocks collected, until November 30. In the first 6 weeks, over 200 blocks have already been collected. The display includes a knit map of the United States, in which each state is represented by a different color and stitch pattern. Additionally, a replica of the Statue of Liberty, kept warm by a colorful afghan, is cleverly decorated—her hair is made from yarn, her crown is made with knitting needles and crochet hooks, and her torch and flame are crocheted.
The Lion Brand Yarn Studio will offer 10% off all yarn, hooks, needles and supplies needed to make the afghan blocks. The 7” x 9” blocks can be donated in person only at the Studio between now and Nov 30. When customers finish turning in all their blocks, they will receive an additional 20% off coupon for their next purchase at Lion Brand Yarn Studio (limit one coupon per customer, in store purchases only). The blocks will be stitched together at a joining party on Sunday Dec. 12 from noon-4:00 pm. The completed afghans will be given to Warm Up America, who will donate them to shelters, hospitals, and social service agencies.
