Lion Brand Blog wins prestigious Platinum PR Award for 2009
"The Lion Brand Notebook" wins PR News’ 2009 Platinum PR Award for embracing social media and opening dialog with their customers through their new blog.
Manhattan, New York - October 26, 2009 - The Lion Brand Yarn Company (http://www.LionBrand.com) wins PR News’ prestigious, annual, Platinum PR Award for their Blog "The Lion Brand Notebook". Lion Brand tied for the annual award with Southwest Airlines which had been the exclusive winner in this category for the past 2 years. This was a highly competitive category that included entries from companies such as GE Corporate, Peppercom & Valspar, Advero Group, NewmanPR & Holland America Line, H&R Block & Miller Meiers.
The Lion Brand Notebook was launched in April of 2008. The purpose of the blog was to not only engage with customers but to gain insights from its consumers interacting with them. In this vein, Lion Brand developed several types of blog posts to determine which were the most engaging and interesting. From this dialog, Lion Brand found that their customers were looking for opinions and tips on various knitting/crochet skills. The success of the Blog lies in providing their customer with the information they want, as well as using it as a vehicle to test ideas, initiatives and types of communications.
Today, The Lion Brand Notebook serves nearly 40,000 unique visitors a month. According to a recent survey conducted by Lion Brand, blog visitors are 10% more likely to buy from Lion Brand than the average visitor to its Web site. Other social media endeavors initiated by Lion Brand include the YarnCraft Podcast which received an honorable mention in the Podcast/Video category of the Platinum PR Awards, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
