UNIQUE CONCEPT KNITTING STORE PREMIERS IN NYC
Lion Brand Yarn Company to open the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in Manhattan, an innovative retail experience, on November 18, 2008.
New York City -- Lion Brand Yarn Company to open the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in Manhattan, an innovative retail experience, on November 18, 2008. The hands-on store experience gives customers a chance to test-drive selected yarns at a sampling wall, enjoy free demonstrations, and select from a broad range of classes and special events. Knowledgeable and friendly staff will provide technical assistance with patterns and assist yarn lovers by recommending the yarns and patterns most suited to each individual's taste, budget, skill level and style. The Lion Brand Yarn Studio, located at 34 West 15 Street near Union Square was designed by David Gauld, who previously worked for Arata Isozaki and was the project architect for Guggenheim Museum SoHo. Liz Strianese of Elizabeth Strianese Interiors design suggests images from nature and is reinforced by the use of many recycled and renewable materials. Upon entering the studio, visitors are guided by a curved blue wave wall, drawing them into a celebration of color and craft. On the opposite wall is a unique display of back-lit, translucent panels that present yarn in a new way and provides visitors with an opportunity to view the widest variety of Lion Brand colors in one venue, along with accessories, books and bags for the knitter and crocheter. The Studio includes a number of unique features. Near the entrance, a sampling wall offers a selection of yarns on cones where visitors can pull off a swatch of yarn to test. There will be a learning bar, where Studio staff will offer assistance with knit and crochet projects and demonstrations of a variety of yarn crafting techniques. Customers will have access to almost 2,000 free patterns on the Lion Brand website through the use of two computers in the studio. "This is not just a store but a center of inspiration, education and service for those who knit or crochet," said Lion Brand Yarn president David Blumenthal, "whether they are experienced or wanting to learn. Our entire team of associates will be on call for Studio customers to express their creativity and enjoy creating their projects.
