Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Janet Smith Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our organization was formed about six years ago. It was the idea of a member, Janet Smith, who thought this would be a good ministry for our church. Sadly, Janet got ill soon after we had formed the group and didn't live to see it prosper. In the last few years we have made prayer shawls for all of our homebound; preemie caps for the county hospital, radiation bibs for an oncology unit, chemo caps for Georgia Cancer Specialists, and each Christmas we make items to include in packages for the homeless women's shelter here in Atlanta.

We made144 scarves in 2009, and last Christmas we created 86 sets of leg and wrist warmers, which represented 344(!) individual items. Our current project is making head warmers to give out to the same agency this Christmas. We are few in number, but large in heart; and find it very satisfying to use our needlecraft talents to help others.

Our motto is "Reaching out to warm body and soul."
