Prayer shawls

I learned how to crochet in order to make prayer shawls with a girlfriend of mine. I have only made two shawls using Homespun with my own pattern. The last shawl I made was for a friend's mother who had struggled with lukemia for 10 yrs, and was now hospitalized with pnuemonia. I felt led to make a shawl for her and started right away. Unfortunately, the woman passed away halfway through making the shawl.

I hurriedly finished the shawl, now praying for her husband and her daughter (my friend), that God would bring them comfort during their time of grief. I presented the shawl to her, during her mother's wake along with the story of why I made it. I told her I like to think of my shawls as a hug from God. She began to cry and said she had been praying to God for comfort and this was a direct answer to her prayers, and that she would treasure this always.

She shared the shawl, and the story with her father later that night. I have heard back from several people how much comfort this shawl has given her and her father. The people who have visited the house since the funeral have found either Carol of her father wrapped in the shawl. Sometimes, they evey fight over who gets to cozy up in it. They commented to the visitors how they feel a great sense of peace and love when they are wrapped in the shawl.

This has inspired me to practice more complicated stitches, so when God leads me to do my next shawl, I can make it even more beautiful. Thanks for giving such great resources and patterns on your web sight. I can't wait to try them.

Sincerely,
Terri Torgesen
