Caring and Sharing

Library Fundraising

For several years a small group of needleworkers has met on Monday nights from 7-9pm at the Macsherry Library in Alexandria Bay NY. We started out as a seasonal group, meeting during the winter but eventually grew into a year round group that changes in size all the time. Some folks are only around in the summer and others head south for a big part of the winter. We are mostly fiber artists, knitters and crocheters, but we also have members who hand quilt, do cross stitch, hook rugs, and the occassional tatter. We enjoy sharing our enthusiasms and passions for our crafts. Show and tell can get pretty loud sometimes, but so far we are still welcome weekly visitors.
The library hosts an annual silent auction that always has plenty of donations from the needlework group. We have also worked on motif afghans that have been raffled off throughout the year to help raise funds for the library. One year we all made crazy hats for a raffle during the annual Heart of Winter Art Show and Chocolate Reception held in the community gallery. We have also decorated and donated a tabletop Christmas tree to the annual table top tree raffle held in conjunction with a Holiday crafts Show and sale at the Library. This past winter we put together a "winter warmers raffle" of hats, scarves, shawls, and wristers that was very popular.
Several members willingly teach anyone who wants to learn to knit or crochet. We have a large "stash" in one of the library closets that contains donated yarns, needles, and hooks.
