Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Project Linus, New Jersey

I knit and crochet blankets for Project Linus New Jersey and have been one of their 'blanketeers' for almost a year.

Until several years ago when I married and relocated to NJ, I was a New Yorker and a member of the Big Apple Quilt Guild. I knit probably hundreds of premie hats which the guild donated to a variety of hospitals.

I also made baby afghans which I gave to Bedford Hills Correctional facility. They have a program there that allows inmates who are mothers of infants to keep their babies with them until the child's first birthday.

I currently also knit for Warm Up America, (the squares which are put together in afghans)and last winter made hats and scarves for AIDS-NJ. I am always looking for organizations that need knit or crocheted items.

I have been knitting and crocheting since I could hold the needles (my grandmothers were enthusiastic teachers) and it's the activity I turn to most. I feel it's one way I can use an ability I have to give to others.

Lion Brand makes a great product and I am always stocking up on your various types of yarn.
