Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Appalachian Angels

I don't have a "story" but what I do have is a load of gratitude to all of you who have donated to the Appalachian Angels project. I put an ad here on the LionBrand site and it is unbelievable the amount of response we got!! I handed out the last fleece wrap last night at the National Homeless Day event that we had at a church downtown. A huge meal was prepared and served and then any homeless person who wanted could come in and eat, have a nice dry, warm cot with blankets and pillows and could also make free long distance phone calls to family or friends all night. The scarves, mittens, hats that were knitted and crocheted were just beautiful. The fleece blankets, scarves and wraps were also just lovely. What an outpouring of love we have received from all of you who donated. Every year I am just shocked at the number of homeless people, families in need, and children who don't even have a warm pair of gloves or a hat to wear here in the mountains.

Thanks to the donations of you really beautiful people, there are a whole lot of people who will get a gift for Christmas, who will be a little warmer tonight, or who just got a pretty gift that made their day a little brighter. Maybe we should change the name of our group to the LionBrand Angels!!! I got more response from the request I put on this website than from all the others put together.

Again, thank you with all my heart and all the hearts of the people who you cared enough to share with.

Also, anyone who would like to donate hand knit/crocheted items, or yarn to make these things with and to use in teaching at the community center here, we are accepting donations year round and appreciate anything you have to offer. Just look for my request under charity donations titled Appalachian Angels. God bless you all and have a wonderful holiday.

Love, Sandy
