Caring and Sharing

Seafarer's Center in Pago Pago, Amer Samoa

As the director of our missions ministry, I was looking for a project. I heard of one area in S.C where stocking caps were made for the sailors & merchant marines who came into port there. Well, being in Hawaii there isn't a big need for stocking caps, but we found one in a very unusual place, Pago Pago, American Samoa.

The missionary at the Seafarer's Center gave us the need. They have many ships come to port there when they go to the Antarctic area to fish. They use the caps as a "door opener" at the center. We have sent over 300 & I have 100 more ready to go.

There are several ladies "using up" their yarn & have made some very attractive caps. They are colorful & the designs are very nice. Since some of them look more on the feminine side, we have decided to give those to the cancer unit at one of our local hospitals.

These caps are made with much love & many prayers. I do not think we will see many of our caps worn. But knowing that our caps are keeping their heads (& maybe their hearts) warm, sure does make our hearts happy.

Thank you for the free patterns, Lion Brand Yarn.
