Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Khrome Knitters

I am an associate member of the Ladies of Harley, a division of the White Plains Harley Owners'Group, a motocycle club sponsored by Reggie Pink, our local Harley Davidson Dealer.

I am also an avid knitter, self taught from the age of 13. Last winter I made an Eros scarf that was admired by many of the women in the club. I was asked if I would knit one for them. Being a teacher by trade, I just told them why don't I just teach you how to make one. Well, that's how Khrome Knitters was born. Some of the ladies are new to knitting, some just needed a refresher course, some are crocheters and want to learn to knit.

We meet for a couple of hours once a month, at a member's house. Like many Harley clubs who do charity runs, the Khrome Knitters do the same. We don't ride for a cause, we knit for a cause. We've knitted preemie caps for our local hospital and still have more to deliver to another hospital. Currently, we are knitting cotton bandages for leprosy patients. One of our member's does the research for our knitting cause.

Our group has grown from 7 at our first meeting to 15 at our last meeting. Those who participate in Khrome Knitters are club members, or wives/girlfriends of members. As of yet we don't have any male knitters but we would not turn one down if he wanted to join!

Regardless of the numbers, the ladies enjoy working on their own project, and our current cause project. We are also planning field trips or rides to area yarn shops.
