Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Ronald McDonald House/Long Island Knitting Guild

I am VP of the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. I also frequent Keep Me In Stitches in Smithtown, NY. Two of the people in the group are members of the Long Island Knitting Guild, which meets once a month.

Bobbie and Nikki suggested that the Guild donate some of their goods to the Ronald McDonald House and it was voted upon. I was invited there to make a presentation and describe our House. Overwhelmingly, they decided to help us and any families who needed anything warm. The response has been incredible! We have received hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters and blankets in all sizes and the recipients are so grateful! The bonus is that they take home the items they use, serving as a constant reminder of the good feelings generated by a wonderful group of people.

Even though I am not a member of the Guild, as I don't have the time, they are a terrific group of people.

I have only gone back to knitting the past 4 years, since the birth of my first grandchild, but I had forgotten how relaxing it is. I use it to unwind at night and am productive to boot!

Continue the good work!
