Newborns In Need of Eastern Missouri

I became involved in this organization through an announcement of their local meetings in a newspaper in our area. I was looking for something to do with the items I crochet. This organization seemed like the perfect mix for me. The Lion Brand yarn I use is Pound of Love and also the Lion Brand yarn wool. I use the wool for preemie hats for infants born early and are at risk. These hats are put on the babies asap to keep them warm. I have made approximately 200 of these hats.
The group also makes other sewn items, such as bibs, burp pads, etc. The group also makes crochet afghans, both large and small for newborn babies whose parents do not have the resources to provide them with the needed baby items. I cannot begin to tell you the number of volunteer hours that are spent in the groups' endeavors nor the number of people who have benefited from this group. Accurate records are kept as we are a 501-c organization.
I have passed on information about this group to several of my friends who are crocheters, knitters, sewers, etc. and some of them also provide items for this organization. This group has been a life-saver for me. I recently lost my job and through this organization I am able to use my now free-time for something worthwhile. The organization provides the yarn, sewing materials, etc. so there can be no out-of-pocket expense. Different companies donate materials to the group which helps the group by their not having to purchase materials and yarn. Of course, anyone who has the resources to buy materials themselves are welcome to do so.
The local media has reported on the group, especially The St. Louis Review, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Mo. The group receives thank-yous every month from the various organizations that receive our items. They are all very appreciative, especially during these times. Thanks so much for providing a venue for me to tell my story.
