Blanket Sunday

My pastor announced in church that in 3 months, on Mother's Day to be exact, we were going to have "Blanket Sunday". Parishoners could "buy" a wool blanket to donate or quilt, knit or crochet baby afgans. Well, my mom taught me to crochet when I was 7 and I won a blue ribbon at the local county fair that year. So, I decided it was time to teach my girls. My husband and I are the 'Brady Bunch' come to life. Together, we have 4 teenage girls and 2 boys. One by one, I sat down with the girls and taught them to crochet. In the 3 months, the 5 of us made 20 baby blankets. I used different patterns, but the girls just did the basic granny square and they switched between a varigation and a solid of their own "design". I was very proud of them! On Mother's Day the alter rail at my church was overflowing with blankets. They were then sent to UMCOR and sent to the hurricane victims.
