Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Learn, Knit, Give

There were two of us who brought this ministry to our church at the same time so we joined forces and started one Knitting ministry in February of 2004.

I made an announcement from the pulpit one Sunday and by the time we left church we had 12 people who wanted to join us. Several did not know how to knit so I held a couple of learning workshops before we started in on the prayer shawls. There were four folks that made the shawls with just knitting as they were a bit leary of purls at this stage of their learning to knit program. Everyone has completed at least one shawl and was well into the second. We have several people who have knit four or more.

We meet once a month for meditation and conversation about those who need to recieve a shawl. We usually have one or two to bless with our prayers and then make a visit to the special someone who is to recieve the shawl.

We keep a log of those who have made the shawls and those who have recieved them.

We use the Lion Brand Homespun yarn, Most everyone is using the round, bamboo needles. We are very excited about the new colors.

This is a very rewarding ministry for those who are participating at Qunicy Pont Congregational Church.
