Knitting is Healing

Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

After hosting a quilting friend, Mickey Lawler, from Ct. who was teaching a class nearby, I received a lovely knitted prayer shawl in the mail from her.

I could feel the prayers attached to it.

When Mickey sent me the scarf she also included three skeins of Lion Brand yarn which I knit up quickly for my daughter's sister in law who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was very touched by it. She absolutely loved the shawl and wore it to two operations and as far as I know still has it wrapped around her.

Then I knit another one for a friend who had had a stroke. This one I knit in a "seafoam pattern" in ocean colors because she loves the ocean. She loved the shawl too!

I have been knitting for a year and have now given away about 190 scarves or shawls to people I love and want to wrap with a hug. My knitting stores in the area love me!!!! Every piece is different, so it keeps my interest.

I'm overwhelmed with the need sometimes. I could knit many many prayer shawls and never run out of people to give them to. I have passed on the pattern to several interested people and hope to keep it going.

I find knitting very meditative and healing and feel it has helped me heal from my own breast cancer.

And I'm so thankful that Mickey thought enough of me to knit a shawl for me!

I keep it on my chair behind me as I now knit for others.
