Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

hats, mittens and slippers

I knit preemie hats for neonatal intensive care nurseries in several cities.

To date, I estimate that I have sent more than 500 of these little hats , mainly to Womens and Childrens Hospital in Buffalo , NY. They are always very appreciative and write glowing thank you letters.

I started my charity knitting by knitting slippers for nursing home patients and hats for the hoemeless. While visitng my son in Augusta, Georgia, I noticed homeless men around a barrel with fire in it. These men were sleeping under bridges and were very appreciative of the hats.

I also made almost 50 pairs of mittens for a Church mitten tree and for the children at Cornerstone Manor in Buffalo, NY. These items were all knitted with love for those who have so little.

Currently I am knitting baby bankets for Cornerstone Manor as well as mittens. I use Wool Ease for mittens and love it because the wool gives some elasticity but yet the acrylic provides easy care. I sometimes add Imagine for two strand mittens. I also use BabySft for sport weight blankets. Lion Brand is the yarn I always look for when starting a new project, but it isn't always easy to find in my area.

I do receive your catalogue, however, which helps alot.
