Caring and Sharing

Sages of Ages

For the past 12 years we in Collingswood,New Jersey have had a town Book Festival all run by volunteers. It is extremely well attended.Last year we estimated we had 10,000 visitors.
In connection with the book festival,we have a program on the Wednesday before the festival for our Seniors. It is called Sages of Ages.At this event we invite 2 Authors to come and give a talk on their book. There is a question and answer period as well as a time of refreshment and word games are also played.
When our seniors enter the Community Center they are each given a ticket. After
all the planned activities are over,we draw the tickets and prizes are handed out.
Over the years,I have made afghans, scarfs, shopping bags.I use Martha Stewart yarn for these items.Last year one of our seniors came up to me after the affair and told me that the scarf she had won the year before had been a Christmas gift for her Daughter. That made all the time I spend on crocheting well worth it.
For this year,I have already made 3 afghans and I enjoy it this year because our winter in NJ has been very cold.
I am not sure this will fit the criteria you are looking for but being proud of what we do,I thought you might consider it.
I should also add that our merchants in town are very generous and donate to Sages as well.
Thank you,
Margaret Smith
