The Joy of Anonymity

Since my retirement from education in 1989, I have spent quality time in my sewing room busily fashioning both fabric and yarn items for donation to charitable groups. I knit newborn caps for hospital nurseries, sew preemie gowns etc also, make teddy bears for ER facilities, knit and crochet comfort pillows, doll clothes for Rescue Mission at Christmas and whatever else seems needed.

Then, 3 years ago, after my husband's death due to cancer, I increased my comfort cap sewing and donated to the Oncology Ward at his hospital. Some caps were fabric and some were knit...soft yarns of course.

In January of this year, a new challenge came along. Due to water damage in my home, I became a displaced person! I had many thoughts to sort and time to pass waiting for my normal life to return. I turned to my basic love ... knit and crochet. with my stash, I crocheted lap afghans and knit fingerless gloves for donation to a local nursing home facility. Those wonderful Lion Brand yarns and the warm true colors along with my sometimes wacky patterns and combinations resulted in attractive, warm gifts for all who received them. I used Homespun in all the various color combos and the WoolEase likewise ... soft, warm and great to work with. Knitting took my mind of my problems!

Now that things are almost back to normal, I am busy with the funfurs, boucles, making for grandchildren and friends alike. I also knit caps for troops in Afghanistan, to wear under the helmets, to keep the heads warmer on those cold nights.

My hands can no longer remain idle whenever a few "free" minutes are available. I carry the knitting/crocheting with me in the car. And, whether waiting for a long traffic light to change, wait at a drive-on bank, etc I have it handy!

Crafting is an important part of my life. And I always do my best "thinking" during these times ...thoughts are sorted, decisions are made ...quiet, relaxing times are achieved.

I heartily recommenD this for any and all wheter already addicted to the passion or just newly introduced.

And please, keep those wonderful yarns (catalogs)coming

PS the only groups I share this with are..Embroidery Guild of America.and a local craft store...mainly, I donate privately as I prefer to be anonymous.
