Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Chapel Purls

I an a member of the Chapel Purls at the Chapel of the Cross in Madison, Mississippi, and we knit hats and scarves for Stewpot Community Services, a ministry for those in need in Jackson, Mississippi. The group is a year old and made up of women from age 12 to middle age 60-somethings. The group meets once a week on Sunday during Sunday school, and knitters knit throughout the week as they have time such as when they're waiting for their children at basketball practice, the orthodontist or just to unwind after a busy day. I think we've tried every type of Lion Brand yarn that there is; we like the variety of colors, types of yarn and the affordability. We also knit with yarn that members of our church have donated. Our group started when two or three us wanted to learn to knit, and we asked an experienced knitter who goes to our church to become our knitting guru and show us how. The time we spend knitting has blessed us with a sense of community, purpose and accomplishment. We recently had 41 scarves and five hats blessed before they were donated to Stewpot. The director said the scarves and hats are so beauiful to look at that he hasn't given them out yet because he's simply enjoyed admiring them. I would tell any group simply to start and see where their love of knitting takes them.
