Caring and Sharing

toques and doll

Through the year, I knit toques and scarves/cowls/neck warmers to give to the Salvation Army and they in turn distribute them to children and adults in need. This year I had two big boxes full of items and I have started to knit on next winters givings. I have also knit hundreds of little 'silent babies" little 4 inch dolls and they go into the Samaritan Purse boxes and they get sent to poor countries for the kids. If you are not familiar with this project, shoe boxes are filled with school supplies etc. Many churches and groups do the shoe box thing--from all over Canada. They are a joy to make as each doll takes on a peronality when the face is put on.
Knitting is a great way to put in time and I do a lot of it. Friends give me left over yarn or I buy it on sale and knit year round. My knitting travels with me when I go to visit or on holiday.
I also have a 93 yr old friend who knits mitts for kids and distributes them to schools. Last year she knit around 280 pair and kids just love them.
Thanks and have a good day. Clari Thornicroft, London Ontario
