Prayer Shawls

Prayer Shawl Ministry/Feb 28, 2008

I recently joined a church and was given such great care and concern from them, I wanted to give back that feeling, in a tangible way.
Several of us had read about your prayer shawl ministry. I bought your book of patterns. Our Women's Ministry funded us(for a while). We have made and given for the last few months, shawls or lap afghans to anyone on our prayer line or with a serious incident in their lives. The outcome has been one of wonderment and gratefulness. We explain that this piece of work is the tangible evidence of our prayers for them. We have used your cards and suggestions. There are 7 of us working on a regular basis. Sometimes we each make a strip or several squares and put them together. The fellowship of being together and making somehting a little quicker for someone has been a great joy. We have used Homespun yarn and Vanna White's yarn. Sometimes we are even putting knitting and crocheting together.
Recently we realized we could not be funded anymore by our source at church. They are working with us in making them and we have taken turns paying for the yarn. I have been searching locally for a grant or even a discount on yarn. Is there anything you can suggest that I do? Or a place to go?
Thank-you for your idea, it has meant comfort and love for so many.
Mary Marshall
