Sharing the Gift of Knitting

My church, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota has been knitting Prayer Shawls for two years now.
Our Parish Nurse began the program in 2003. Her intention is to present a Prayer Shawl to a parishner who is in need of comfort because of cancer, or any other terminal health condition; to persons who are in need of personal care and comfort in family crisis; or any other type of personal or family situation. It can even be a happy time - a new baby, a wedding, etc..

When the idea was launched, we discovered that many women did not know how to knit. That is where my part of the Ministry can to be. I am a former Home Economics teacher, and have tught knitting for years. So we offered a beginners class for basic knitting. Many women have learned to knit. And have contributed Prayer Shawls for the Parish Nurse to carry on with the Ministry.

We have just began another Knitting class to continue the Ministry in 2005.
