Caring and Sharing

The Linus Project Blanket

When my best friend, Maureen McHugh, lost her oldest daughter in a car accident, she was devestated. My other best friend,Debbie Mock, and I decided to help her by trying to focus her grief ondoing good. Because her daughter was such a warm and kind girl who had learned to crochet, we decided that we even though we do not live nearby, we would each make a certain number of granny squares and put them in a blanket and donate to a worthy charity. I made copies of a pattern, had extra yarn and crochet hooks. We met for dinner and divided up the yarn which happened to be red, white and blue. We made the squares in solid red and blue and attached them with the white. We learned about the Linus Project which gives homemade blankets to children who are trauma victims or who are ill. This project gave us a lot of good memories and laughs along the way.

We donated our finished blanket in Christine McHugh's memory.
