Caring and Sharing

Hugs and Stitches

My name is Debbie and I belong to St. Bede the Venerable Church in Mentor, Ohio. There was a lady named Barb who thought that maybe a few women could get together and crochet, knit, or sew some items for a few hospitals in our area, a Hospice center and the Ireland Cancer Center. We had a meeting at church for all those who were interested. Some of us, inlcuding myself, could not even read or follow a pattern. We also only knew a few stitches. After one meeting, this special lady had me reading patterns and learning many new stitches. In 5 weeks time, we had made many things for these centers and hospitals. We had a show at church to show the other members of the church what we did in such a short time and to invite anyone to join us in this very special endevor that we have taken upon ourselves. For those who have the the gift to crochet, knit, or sew and want to donate some of there time for the less fortunate, it is so gratifying. We help cancer patients, hospice patients and also a preemie ward at a local hospital. We have helped hundreds of people in this short time. Our next deliveries are this fall around October. We have had very good feed back from the agencies that we donated to. If anyone would like to donate yarn, fabric, or needles for crocheting or knitting or if you live in our area and would like to donate your time and talent, please do. Thank you for your interest.
