From the Heart

We are so excited about this Lion Brand chairty idea! From the Heart entered this list and received our first request for more information from a stitcher by Friday afternoon, July 29, 2005. By Monday afternoon we had received 18 responses! From these emails we have gained a few local stitchers anxious to help our causes, a huge yarn donation from a gentlemen who has lost his stitching wife, and so many thumbs-up for what we are trying to accomplish.

From the Heart came into existence about 4 years ago and would never have grown to it's current numbers without the wonderful help of a gentleman from the Mid-West. Through his huge yarn donations, we have grown to a membership of almost 400. Our stitchers, using donated yarn and tools, gave over 5,500 items to charities in 2004. So far in the first 7 months of 2005, we have donated 4,700 items!

Our donations benefit patients in five cancer centers with chemo hats and chemo blankets for both adults and children. We make underarm pillows and drain tube bags for breast cancer victims and offer catheter bag covers for other patients as well as for our veterans in McGuire Veterans Home. We supply bright colored blankets and hats to the children in hospital burn units. We make blankets for patients in a bone marrow transplant unit and beautiful red, white and blue blankets for our veterans.

We buy bears and knit and crochet outfits for them and pass these little critters on to police departments, rescue squads, Children's Miracle Network as well as several pediatric oncology departments and children's burn units.

We make needy baby hats, sweaters, booties, socks and blankets as well as little outfits for preemie babies and burial gowns, pouches and outfits for little ones who do not survive.

We have sent hundreds of items to the Russian orphanages through Children in Common and have assisted kids in the Appalachian areas of our state of Virginia as well.

We work very hard each year to help our homeless citizens by supplying warm hats, scarves, mittens and socks as well as sleeping bags made from donated bedding.

We have created hundreds of smiles on patients faces during our four years but as a wonderful added bonus we have seen lonely, depressed little ladies sparkle again just because they can pick up their needles and hooks and be useful! From the Heart has recently been granted non-profit status in Virginia. Our organization has been and continues to be such a blessing to so many and we truly thank you, Lion Brand for our publicity and the chance to be a benefit to many, many more folks in the future!
