Volunteer knitting with donated yarn

My name is Katie. One day my neighbor came over and asked me a couple of questions about knitting. While we were talking and I was answering her questions she told me what they were doing at her work.

There are about 15 people who went to a meeting about knitting premie hats for one of the hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth TX area. This group started about 2 weeks ago (about the 9th of May). They are trying to make 100 by Labor Day. Most of these people, from what I have been told, are all beginners.

Since I do know how to knit and just sit around since I am disabled, I decided to help. Well, Donna brought me the pattern and a skein of yarn that the company bought. Donna and the other people work 40 hours a week and have other things that they have to do. I decided to help them out as much as I can. I went and bought some yarn and started making hats. I usually give Donna 8 hats a week. She told me that she is on her 3rd and some of the other people are still on their first.

I have decided that I will keep on making as many as I can to help them get to their 100. I can not say the company's name unless I get their premission but this company has a interest in the community. The company has bought some of the yarn and are planning on buying more for the people who are knitting. We are not making the usual pink, blue, green and yellow hats. We are doing mixtures of colors and making them bright and cheerful. We do not know how the parents will feel about the colors but it will cheer up the nursery. I think the babies and the nurses will like all of the different colors.

This is not a very long story about a lot of people getting together and doing this. Only a handful of people who work together and wanted to do something to help someone. I have told Donna that when I can travel better that if they wanted someone to help the other people with their learning how to knit that I would go up there.

I am just happy to be able to help.
