Caring and Sharing

Blanket for America

Our crochet guild in central Ohio has donated blankets made wholly, or from 7"x7" squares people give us, to CHRISTMAS CLEARING HOUSE which makes them available to people in need of gifts at Christmas, but who have no money. Others donate food stuffs and toys and such, but our guild sends handmade blankets in all sizes.

We manage to give at least 40 blankets each year. It was a mission from our beginnings as a guild. We use any yarns donated and those purchased. Worsted and fingering yarns are most prevalent.

We have had several newspaper articles about us. The local P.I.N. [People in Need] organization is the collection agency for the annual project.

This past year we received wonderful praise for a project we completed. Since it is a Christmas project, we wrapped all the items in see-through plastic and wrapping cord, and enclosed a new Christmas card for them to give with it. We work all year at this, and we have one woman, who is herself on funding, who turns out the most blankets each year. We give her yarn donated to us, but I know she buys some yarn for them herself.

It is a good feeling each November when we wrap them all up.

Sincerely, Marlene L. Hitchcock, Convener
