Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Harts for All!

Salt Lake City is the hub city for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In Salt Lake there is a huge warehouse for collecting donations for the Humanitarian Center. This center collects not only food and clothing but has many projects that are contirbuted to by the church members. My son made 30 school kits (consisting of a bag, a chalkboard, an eraser, crayons, pencils, sharpener, and paper)for his Eagle Scout project. They were sent to a country that doesn't have access to the wealth of supplies that we have in the US. Our ward (a small church group) donates quilts, and crocheted or knitted items on a regular basis. I collect scraps of yarn and partial skeins and make hats. Big hats, medium hats, small hats and premie caps.

I have a great-neice that was born prematurely and as a thank you to the hospital that took care of her I donated about 30 premie caps in her name. We also have a childrens hospital here that I have donated about 100 premie caps to. They are just too fun to make and don't take much yarn.

Lion Brand yarns are my favorites to work with - I am always excited when someone donates some!

Leslie Heath
