Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

AGAPE MINISTRIES.

Ive been a quilter and knitter for years. I am a chaplain in nursing homes. I've done cross-stitch Christian projects for the residents. I made 175 Christmas Crosses using canvas and yarn at Christmas time and Easter. My hubby helps too.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer 2 1/2 years ago and have been undergoing chemo. At chemo, they asked for donations of hats. Many of what they got itched on bald heads. I've been knitting with fun fur and others of your furs and they are so soft and nice. The patients love them, and when I put them in a basket and they are all gone. I can't quilt because of my neuropathy but I still knit. I have also done some shoulder shawls for their cold shoulders. The people are so appreciative but I do it anomously. I will get my reward in heaven-don't need it here.

I use to knit lap robes for the nursing home, but they get many of those now because I talked to different women's groups who are doing it now. Because of chemo I've had to miss doing the nursing home services but making the hats still allows me to give of myself.

I print off many, many Lion Brand free patterns. I've made many scarves with the fun fur for the chemo ladies to wear in winter, not for warmth but to make them feel dressed up and good about themselves. Just knowing someone cares adds to their sad days.

I have another lady helping me now as it got out of hand. She is doing my canvas work. We have 50 chairs at chemo lab and they are full most every day. Even the men sometimes take them for a loved one. Thanks for honoring us.
