Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

The Newtown Women's Club

I am a member of The Newtown Women's Club, GFWC, Inc. We have a knitting group that I have been leading. We knit preemie hats and booties and present them to the Neo-Natal division at Danbury Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital. We also knit hats and scarves and mittens for the homeless and take these items to the Dorothy Day Center in Danbury. Sometimes these items are sent along with quilts that our sewing group makes. We also knit hats and lap robes for the veterans at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home.
We knit "prayer shawls" and present them to the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital. We always use Homespun yarn for the prayer shawls. Quite a bit of our yarn is donated to us.

Our Women's Club knitting group meets once a month at a local assisted living facility and we try to get the residents to join us. We had our photo taken and a small article printed in The Newtown Bee with these residents.

The church that I belong to is going to start a prayer shawl ministry in the near future and I am looking forward to being part of that group.

I know that the hospitals are very pleased to receive our knitted items, and we knitters are happy to make some one else's life sweeter!!!
