Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Somerset Center United Methodist Church

This is a new ministry in our church, Somerset Center United Methodist Church. We have about 8 or 9 ladies in our small church participating in making shawls for people in critical need, i.e. cancer patients, older folks homebound and others who would benefit by being wrapped in God's love and prayers.

We began because one of our older ladies at church has a son with acute lukemia. He was given a prayer shawl because he gets cold so easily. He makes frequent trips to the hospital. Kim and his family were so moved by this loving gift, that his mother came to me and said "Do you think we could began such a ministry in our church?" My reply was "Of course we can."

I hadn't crocheted for 30 years, but my friend Verna (Kim's mother) showed me a beautiful pattern she often makes, and I learned how to do it quickly. We have several ladies "in process" of making their shawls at this time, but have not given any out yet.

Prayers for the recepient are said as we lovingly work on our shawls. We ask God as this shawl enfolds them, that so too would His love surround them and keep them in His love and care....and anything else that comes to mind at any given time.
