Quietly making a difference

My friend, Velda, has made literally hundreds and hundreds and afghans for the Linus Project. I have lost track of how many years she has been donating her crocheted blankets for these sick children. She has received a few thank-you notes from some grateful parents, telling how touched they were to find the blanket in their child's hospital bed or crib, but mostly she has no idea what happens to her blankets. She just drops them off (boxes full at a time) and then makes more.

Velda works 60-hour weeks at IBM, so it's not like she has nothing better to do than to make baby blankets.

But something keeps her inspired to keep making them. No one has ever recognized her for her efforts; in fact, I am one of very few people (if any others) that even knows she does it.

It is quiet people like Velda that make a difference.
