knitting/crocheting for chidren in Iraq

I am aletter writer to soldiers in Iraq. They are so kind to the innocent children who live in such poverty. They need warm winter mittens, scarfs, any thing to keep them warm. They wait for the soldiers to see what they have for them. The soldiers feel bad when they have nothing to offer. So it is through persons, such as myself I have made this a priorityand have knitted hats and scarfs so far. I used lion brand bulky and other names of yarn from Lion brand.

Since my own children are grown and gone I have the spare time. But since its been yrs. since I made mittens etc. for them (I'm no where near a professional.) And therefore look for the easiest patterns I can find. I have printed out patterns from Lion but still find myself in need of help. I would like a pattern for crocheted mittens in 4ply yarn. These make up not so fast as I used to(age catches up with the fingers).

I also do as much as i can for the homeless and donated items last year, even a quilt. I feel my place in life is to continue efforts to help the needy and do.I donot belong to any group and untold numbers have benefited. I do not get involved with the media. I would say to those of you who can and are willing to get busy and do what you can for these children, therefore it makes the soldiers happy also. One soldier asked me or whom ever to send them any clippings referring to the tremendous work they have and are doing,at the expense of many lives.

I lost a son in Vietnam. They need so much encouragement to keep them fighting for our Freedom and as we know are rarely mentioned in the media.

Thank you.sincerely,Bernice Maxheimer
