Chemo Caps & Baby Hats

About 2 years ago we started a knit/crochet class at our library. We meet the last Wednesday of each month from 4-5:30 p.m. to teach knitting & crocheting to patrons ages 8 and older. All of our knitting needles, crochet hoods, and yarn are donated; as we have no budget for this craft. Baby caps can be made with very small amounts of yarn. We are always thankful for all the donations. The first 50 hats were sent to Caps For Good. The first chemo cap was sent to a friend of a former librarian in another state. Then we began delivering hats to area birthing centers and cancer centers: Chillicothe Birthing Center; Childrens Hospital in Columbus; Blanchard Valley Medical Center's Birthing & Cancer Units in Findla;, Madison County Birthing Center in London; Springfield Regional Medical Center's Birthing & Cancer unit; Hospice, The Well, and Life Pregnancy Center in Washington Courthouse; and Clinton Memorial Birthing & Cancer Centers in Wilmington, Ohio. We have used Lion Brand Homespun, Jiffy, Wool-Ease, Vanna's colors, etc. Over the past 2+ years we have donated over 1300 newborn & chemo caps. We have had a few teens knit hats; many patrons knit/crochet hats at home and bring them in to the library. We are so thankful for all of the donations and enjoy visiting with our patrons who donate. We have received many thank you notes for the baby hats (the nurses just love looking through the hats when we deliver them)! We hope the chemo caps brighten the day for those going through tough times (and the ladies at these hospice centers say patients enjoy selecting their own special caps)!
