Support for a Soldier

Hello,My life besides my family is crocheting.

I visit a chat room on AOL called " Lets talk Crochet"I have been friends with some since my first day on AOL back in 1997. My friends and I have a Huggan list and I am in charge of sending out info when someone wants to make a huggan for someone in need who my have lost a loved one,ill or just needs a hug. Right now I have around 90 names on my list I send the info out to each week.

My son who is a senior in Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas came home fom school in April and telling me how one of his teachers' former student ( Robert )was at war in Iraq and was attacked while on duty and a few of the men he was with died and he suffered a broken neck and other injuries.

Robert happened to call and talk to his teacher that day while my son was in class and the teacher told the class about Robert's situation and how Robert often calls to talk to her for support to get through this. He is back in our home town and recovering from his injuries at this time.

I thought how wonderful it could be if I made him a huggan to show him our love and support and help get his mind on others things besides what he had been through. I sent out word to those on my Huggan list and I rec over 50 8" crocheted squares for Robert's huggan all done in RED, WHITE & Blue. I finished the huggan over this past weekend and it turned out beautiful, my best huggan yet. My son delivered it to his teacher on Monday May 24,04 and from there the teacher will deliver it to Robert.

The squares come in from all over our country, we put a little ribbon on each square with our screen name along with our home state so the one receiving the huggan can see where each square come from.
