Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

project linus

I had a friend in illinois who has 2 handicapped sons. I had made them quilts, and earned about Project Linus from them. I had made contact with a wonderful woman out there, Dot, who is a fantastic organizer, and who has deliveredover 1,000 blankets to sick & injured kids. She delivered a Dallas Cowboys afghan I crocheted to a foster child, and I got back a wonderful thank-you note that brought tears to my eyes.

I knew I wanted to do more and I needed to do something around home. So, while working at a local, quite large craft store, I hooked up with a local Project Linus organizer here. She made such a difference -- the staff at the store talked up Project Linus so much that I think we ended up with over 1,500 blankets/quilts and many supplies -- even a few rolls of stamps so we could mail newsletters!

We used all kinds of yarn-mostly what was on sale, but I made one of your hexagon afghan with homespun yarn, displayed it, and did the sales of that yarn skyrocket! Many ladies donated a skein when they shopped for themselves.

Project Linus is a great success in many ways -- not only do children get blankets, but it gives older lonely people extra outlets to help even though they really couldn't get out of their homes much. Boy can those gals (mostly gals) crochet, knit & quilt up a storm!!!!!!!

Now many children have one-of-a-kind blankets thanks to Dot, Hilary & everyone who helped them
