What Gift Did God Give Me?

The Pastor of the Milford First Brethren Church in Milford, Indiana, where I attend church, always said God has given everyone a talent to use for Him. I thought about this alot and wondered what talent God had given me to use for Him. I really couldn't figure it out for a very long time. So I prayed for God to show me what I could be doing for His glory.

I had tried teaching Sunday School and I knew that wasn't it. I'd tried other things but nothing seemed right. I have many health problems and there are a lot of things I cannot do, but I had faith God had a place for me to serve.

Then one day I heard on the Christen Radio Station that they were going to have a huge baby shower for local children's charities and a "light bulb" went off in my head. I could crochet baby blankets for that. So I started digging around in my yarn stash to see what I could find to work with. But there wasn't too much there. I started with what I had and I kept praying for ways to get more yarn. I found people in my church who donated yarn and money. I reached out to the community and to yarn companies and the need started being met.

The first year I made about 20 blankets for babies and the next year I made about 130 afghans for nursing homes and more baby blankets. Each time I run low on yarn, I pray and God sends another supply. I've also made items for church fund raisers and now I am making many other items for charities. (I have included a picture of a dress I made. I am going to be making more dresses to sell as a fund raisers for our church's missions.) I have started a crocheting and knitting group and we are going to make prayer shawls this fall for nursing homes in the area. We hope to continue to expand this work into many other items.

I use a lot of Lion Brand yarn products in my charity work. Jamie Baby yarn is great for the summer-time light weight blankets and the Homespun yarns work up quickly which lets me make more blankets in less time. I also use a lot of the Lion patterns.

We can always use donations to help us with the projects. Our charity is listed here on the Lion site.

I am so glad Lion Brand has donated space for these charity stories. They are inspiring and I hope my story will get someone else motivated to do God's work in other places.

May God Bless You,
Janet Peterson
