Prayer Shawls

A couple of women I know saw the directions to knitting/crocheting prayer shawls in the Lutheran Magazine. There's about 5 or 6 of us who make the shawls.

We decided to try making them & then give it to those in the church/community that are in need of special prayers. These people may be ill, have lost someone, or need a lift.

We use the Homespun yarn. At the end of our first year, we gave out about 25 of the shawls.

One of our congregational members was hit by a car on Christmas Eve. After services one of the ladies felt she needed to take a shawl to his wife & daughter who were at the hospital. It was poor weather that night but they made the 20 mile trip safely. The daughter laid it over her father when he was dying. She now wraps it around her whenever she needs to feel his presence.

I would tell others for encouragement that what you get back from doing a good is more than you can ever give.
