Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Our church has formed a Prayer Shawl Ministry which provides Prayer Shawls for those who are ill, suffering from grief, or otherwise in need of comfort. So far we have made and given away about 60 shawls, including sending some to Lesotho and to Honduras. We meet every week for an hour and a half, and enjoy the fellowship of each other's company as much as we enjoy providing comfort to others. Our shawls, hats, and blankets have benefitted over 100 people in the two years we have been doing this. The recipients are always extremely moved, usually to tears, including men, when we deliver a shawl. There are currently sixteen of us in the group.

We have branched out into baby blankets and hats for the children in Lesotho as well as christening blankets for the infants in our own parish.

We use Homespun for the shawls and a variety of yarns for the blankets and hats, I have done several with Pound of Love yarn.

We donate our leftover yarn to the knitting class at Mercy Learning Center in Bridgeport, CT, an organization that educates women through volunteers who tutor in ESL, GDE, and teach sewing, knitting, and computer skills.
