Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

I belong to a crochet club at the local library in Sparks, N.V. We were approched by a gentlemen from a V.F.W post local. He asked 2 years ago if our club would make lap blankets for the V.A. hospital. We all jumped and said yes but we cant provide all the yarn needed. Bless his heart, he went to his fellow military friends and collected money to buy the yarn.
We started crocheting and the rest is history. We have donated over 500 lap blankets as well and 500 scarfs for a local middle school so the kids could have one of there own. Also we make stuff for Home in Stead org and Xmas on the corridor. We make blankets for teen pregnacy program and booties and hats and any thing needed. the gentleman finds a home for any thing we make.
we have been honered by our govenour with letters on commendation.
It would not be possible with out the help of the guy from the V.F.W.
I would name him but he would like to keep a low profile. with out his donations of yarn we would not be able to keep making everything we do.Also from our scraps the library takes small blankets to the humane assoc. for the dogs and cats to take home with them when they are adopted.
Please forgive my spelling errors and correct them if you post this anywhere.
P.S. Anybody in Sparks want to join the crochet club?
Thanks, Jenny Swartz,
P.P.S when the guy brings the yarn every month he looks like Santa and we send him on his way with a full bag of finished stuff. Bless his heart. not only does he get us yarn, he distributes the stuff we make to anyone in need.
