Catnip Mice (Revised)
Created By: Eileen Parzek
I didn't use a pattern - all I did was knit a large triangle at the size I wanted to use, folded in half (slightly larger to give 2 edges for stitching), using small needles for a tight stitch. I left long pieces of extra yarn at the same wide end of each. For stuffing, I took the toe end of a knee high pantyhose, stuffed it with about a tablespoon of catnip, and the shredded remains of the rest of the stocking, and tied a knot in it. Put that inside and then I whip stitched the edges together, leaving a third long piece of yarn at the same end. This allowed me to braid the three pieces into a tail which I knotted at the end. The tail is very important because the cats like to pull it by the tail. Also important, I used a wool yarn for these, which is critical because as the cat chews and claws on them, they don't fall apart - they "felt" and become even more tough!
