Halloween Hair
Created By: Lisa Stringfellow
As Halloween has gotten closer, I was frantic for a cute Halloween costume idea for my two year old twins, Althea and Benjamin. Since they were born 14 weeks premature in 2003, they have endured quite a bit of time in the hospital, together and apart, and did not spend last Halloween together.
This year, I got the idea to dress them as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat in the Hat. I bought them matching red sweat suits and used adhesive felt and some fabric paint to create their costumes. I was stuck on how to give them the requisite blue hair though. Hair spray wasn't safe and I didn't think I could find wigs that would be small enough or comfortable.
While in the store, I passed the yarn aisle and got the idea to knit them some "hair" using Sapphire Fun Fur and some matching acrylic yarn. Using size 17 needles, I whipped up two hats in about an hour a piece. They came out great and provided just the looked I wanted, as well as keeping their heads warm in our dropping temperatures. I took them to our church Fall Festival and their hats and costumes were a hit! Thanks Lion Brand for making their costumes a success!
