Psychadelic Daisy Blanket
Created By: A Amanda
This blanket consists of 4 sections of 25 crocheted squares (5x5) of alterneting solid color granny squares, and daisy pattern squares. Each square has a contrasting border. Both of the patterns are out there to find, but I thought of putting the two designs together in alternating squares and colors. Originally I had started this project as a full sized bed spread for myself (25x25, or 125 little squares). Then my Cousin had a daughter named Shivani Ava. Later a classmate of mine from Night School also had a daughter, Anya Simone (pictured). Since I already had several sections done, it was simple enough to take 4 and sew them together for a baby version. I used Microspun "Coral" and "Fuchsia" for a real eye-popping effect. I chose Microspun because of the easy washing care for tired new Mommies (and Daddies)! Each finished square measures 3.5"x3.5" and uses approximately 20 yards of material. For all you math nuts out there, that means a full blanket of 125 squares takes about 8 balls of each color! You folks at Lion Brand TOTALLY owe me a coupon or two!!
P.S.: Look on the internet for a natural raffia, gift wrap ribbon alternative material called "Wraphia." It comes in 100, or 500 yd. spools in a rainbow of colors, and is GREAT for making summer hats and purses! I used Wraphia in the same pattern to make my Mom a totebag.
