My 7 year old grandson!
Created By: Carol Esgar

MY SEVEN YEAR OLD GRANDSON CAME OVER AND ASKED ME IF I WOULD TEACH HIM HOW TO KNIT. HE SAID HE HEARD THAT MEN ARE KNTTING NOW. I TOOK OUT NEEDLES AND SOME YARN AND STARTED TEACHING HIM HOW TO DO THE KNIT STITCH. HE IS A QUICK LEARNER. I STARTED HIM OFF WITH BULKY YARN AND SIZE 10 1/2 NEEDLES SO HE WOULD SEE HIS WORK SHOWING PROGRESS IMMEDIATELY. AT FIRST THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH HIM LOSING STITCHES AND AS HE PROGRESSED I TOLD HIM HE HAD TO MAKE SURE HE HAD THE SAME NUMBER OF STITCHES ON EVERY LINE HE DID. HIS FIRST PROJECT WAS A SIMPLE SCARF FOR HIMSELF. THEN HE WANTED TO MAKE SOMETHING FOR HIS MOTHER FOR MOTHER'S DAY SO HE MADE A TRIVET FOR HER. NEXT TIME HE CAME OVER AND ASKED ME TO TEACH HIM THE PURL STITCH AND THEN WE PRACTICED SO HE COULD CAST ON AND OFF.

NOW COMES THE FUN PART. HE SAW ME MAKING A SCARF FROM FUN FUR SO THIS BECAME HIS NEXT PROJECT. I GAVE HIM FUN FUR TO WORK WITH SO HE COULD MAKE A SCARF. MY GRANDSON TOOK HIS KNITTING WITH HIM WHEN HE WENT FOR A HAIR CUT AND THE PERSON CUTTING HIS HAIR SAID SHE REALLY LIKED WHAT HE WAS DOING SO HE SAID THAT HE COULD MAKE ONE AND SELL IT TO HER. SHE ORDERED 2 SCARVES AND HE TOLD HER THEY ARE $15 EACH. SOMEONE ELSE ORDERED A SCARF SO HE HAD 3 ORDERS. THEN, HE WENT TO A BUSINESS MEETING WITH MY DAUGHTER ONE OF HER COLLEAGUES SAW HIM KNITTING. SHE ASKED HIM WHAT COLORS HE CAN MAKE THEM IN SO HE OPENED HIS BACKPACK AND SHOWED HER ABOUT 6 DIFFERENT COLOR FUN FURS HE HAD WITH HIM AND SHE PICKED A COLOR AND ORDERED A SCARF.

MY LITTLE ENTREPRENEUR NOW HAS ORDERS FOR 4 SCARVES, 2 OF WHICH ARE ALMOST COMPLETE. MY DAUGHTER MAKES SURE HE DOES NOT SPEND ALL OF HIS TIME KNITTING. HE HAS TO BE OUTSIDE PLAYING WITH HIS FRIENDS, RIDING HIS BIKE AND DOING ALL THE THINGS BOYS DO, TOO. THERE IS A PROGRAM THEY GET ON TELEVISION CALLED "KNITTY GRITTY." HE IS LEARNING ALL KINDS OF THINGS FROM THIS PROGRAM. HE TAUGHT HIS OTHER GRANDMOTHER HOW TO KNIT TOO. I AM VERY PROUD OF HIM AND HIS BUSINESS SENSE. SO IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY TO SHOW A CHILD HOW TO KNIT IF THEY EXPRESS INTEREST. NOW HE WANTS TO CREATE A WEBSITE TO TEACH HIS FRIENDS HOW TO KNIT.
