Brylee's Earflap Hat
Created By: Sheila Aune
Craft: knit
Materials: The yarn I used is Baby Wool in Almond. I used size eight- 16 inch circular and dpns.
Pattern Source: otherCo: Baby Hats, Mittens & Booties
A couple days before Christmas I heard through the grapevine (my SIL to my Mom to me) that my SIL wished she'd asked me to make a cap for my 8 week old niece Brylee. The (store bought, ugh!) hats she had wouldn't stay on her little head. It just so happened that I had bought some yarn to make things for Brylee from Lion Brand just weeks before. I made her a cute, but practical ear flap hat, braiding cords for the ties. You start by knitting the ear-flaps first, then join the ear-flaps by casting on more stitches until you are knitting in the round with the hat decreased at the top as you usually would. It turned out really cute! My SIL was absolutely thrilled and Brylee seemed to like it, too. To finish the job of helping keep Brylee warm, I knit her a set of thumb-less mittens to match. The mittens only took a couple hours, and that was while I was visiting with people at Christmas. And the hat only took me a few hours one evening. I now have orders to make similar hats for Brylee's big sister, my Mom and my other niece Camy. My order from Lion Brand has been ordered and is (hopefully) on it's way!
